Shoreline Erosion
The Shoreline Erosion Presentation (January 19, 2023) discusses the causes, impacts, and potential solutions for shoreline erosion in the Fox River and Chain O’Lakes system. The presentation explains how erosion occurs and how factors such as wave action, boat wakes, fluctuating water levels, and loss of natural vegetation can weaken shorelines and lead to sediment entering the waterway.
It also reviews current shoreline conditions in the Chain O’Lakes and highlights the environmental impacts of erosion on water quality, habitat, and navigation. The presentation concludes with an overview of stabilization and restoration approaches, including best management practices and shoreline protection methods designed to reduce erosion and improve long-term shoreline stability.
